The story sees three wealthy, middle-aged CEOs - all married family men - get together for their annual hunting game in a desert canyon. It's a way for them to let off steam and affirm their manhood with guns. But this time, one of them has come along with his young mistress, who quickly arouses the interest of the two others. Things get out of hand and she is left for dead in the middle of this arid hell. However, the young woman is very much alive, and the hunting game turns into a ruthless manhunt.
Never take your mistress on an annual guys' getaway, especially one devoted to hunting - a violent lesson for three wealthy married men.
Straight from the beginning the camera let&#39;s us know and tempts us with views of a beautiful young woman, just strutting around. As you can read in the outlines someone thinks this is an invitation. Which of course it isn&#39;t … and it&#39;s really one of those things that most often than not break movies for me. And while the movie does not shy back to depict that violent attack, it does not go all Irreversible on us the viewers.<br/><br/>But as the title suggests, we do get some redemption and we do get a lot of blood and violent acts. This is definitely not for the faint hearted or squeamish. This really is graphic and I would guess a it unrealistic (or hyper realistic?). Whatever you want to call it, the second half is where the &quot;fun&quot; is at (again, remember this is just a movie and I&#39;m obviously not advocating or rooting for that sort of behaviour in any way, shape or form). With that in mind, sit back, relax and enjoy the mayhem
Right from the first scene, I could tell that this film would be an exceptionally well directed film, and that it was. The close-ups were genius and set the mood perfectly. <br/><br/>This was novice director/writer/editor Coralie Fargeat&#39;s first full feature film and she nailed it! The directing was outstanding, the cinematography perfection, the editing on point and the screenplay impressive. Even the score was better than most films in this genre - which really was a gore film as well as an action/thriller. <br/><br/>Sure there were some factual errors and plot issues but Matilda Lutz&#39;s hotness and short-shorts made up for those quite well. As a matter of fact, I can&#39;t think of one gore film that had less plot issues/factual errors, not to mention usually poor acting. This was all done very well and shot in a beautiful Moroccan setting to add to the eye candy. <br/><br/>I would certainly recommend this film and would watch it again. A well deserved 9/10 from me!
Revenge is a bit too thin to sustain its running time (despite its slickness and mesmeric rhythm), but Fargeat’s well-executed finale is worth the wait, particularly for how it cements Lutz as a final girl for the ages. A girl who’s stripped of her humanity, and then finds the strength to return the favor several times over.
